This one tip/piece of advice has completely changed the way we do marketing and how we look at marketing as a whole.
This idea comes from the Book “The 1-Page Marketing Plan” by Allan Dib, and it’s a great book to understand and really grasp the idea of marketing and how to market.
From this book Allan mentions that people don’t like to be directly sold to with advertising. It’s the same idea as door-to-door selling. It becomes really annoying and a waste of time to do.
He suggests that you need to “Get people interested in what you do.”
This simple phrase has changed the way we market and go about marketing with other businesses. We no longer focus on growth hacks or “schemy” sales funnels, we are more involved with getting an audience interested in what we actually do.
How is this better?
Going for direct selling with your marketing is a lot of effort for very little result. You are approaching numerous people hoping they (at that exact moment) need your product or service. If they do great! If they don’t, then that’s a bad first impression.
When you start to design your content marketing in a way that gets people interested in your business and what you do, you are creating content that has people looking at your business and making the decision to buy on their own terms. This makes a higher chance to convert and have that person be a repeat client or customer. Even if they don’t buy at that moment, if they are interested, you will be on top of their mind until they are ready.
So how do you get people interested in your content marketing?
Strong Brand Identity
A strong brand identity that is not only visually interesting but also an engaging brand messaging. People will get behind your business if there is something to get behind. If your business clearly expresses what your business stands for, who you are etc. then your audience will resonate directly with your business. Be disruptive, be creative, be unique.
Interesting Content Marketing
Having a good brand is half of it. If you can’t properly and effectively communicate your brand, then your brand becomes useless. To be interesting, create content that is interesting to look at and gives viewers to look at it. This content either drives some sort of emotion or drive and element that makes it visually appealing to look at. Take a left field approach and be satirical or or have aesthetic design. Whatever it is, be creative and impactful but make sure you stick within the guidelines of your brand.
Thinking this way really puts a whole new perspective to marketing. It's not about sales tricks but creating a brand and a story that actually will resonate and connect with an audience. When there is a strong connection between audience and brand thats where marketing becomes its most effective.
